Mattitos

I borrowed this picture from Mattitos.com

Today’s fajita lunch was brought to me by Mattitos restaurant.  This was my first time to eat at a Mattitos and I really enjoyed it.  As usual, I got beef fajitas. I think I could eat fajitas almost every day. I’d have to alternate with nachos though. When my friend ordered the Bob Armstrong dip, I realized that Mattitos must be a part of the Matt’s El Rancho family. I didn’t eat the Bob Armstrong dip this time, but I used to go to Matt’s just for the amazing dip.  Legend has it that the former Land Commissioner asked for something off the menu and the chef came up with this delicious slice of cheesy heaven.  The fajitas were excellent. I think I actually liked the fajitas at Mattitos better then the fajitas at Matt’s.  I also had a really good time being there with some of my favorite people!

Mi Cocina

I think most people judge a good Mexican food place by their salsa, but I judge them by their fajitas.  Mi Cocina Mexican food restaurants are ALL over Dallas, and I’ve never been to one that I didn’t like.  They cook their fajitas with potatoes, which I don’t eat, but it’s a little different. I like that they don’t over-cook the fajitas. Most places serve them so burnt that you can’t even enjoy them. You can get about 4 tacos from their servings, so that could probably even feed two people!  If you are ever in Dallas area, make sure to try Mi Cocinas.

Out and about

Last night we went to one of our favorite places, Lavaca Street Bar and Grill.  One of the reasons we like it is because they always have good specials.  Tuesday night is $1.00 Tecate night. Wednesday is Hamburger basket for $5.00 night.  Thursday is baconmania. I still haven’t made it there for baconmania yet though. Dare to dream!!!  We all shared queso, fries and wings.  The guys had pizza, too.  They have pretty good bar food.  The only complaint that I have about the place is that the music is really loud.  I can’t ever hear the people I’m sitting next to.  Does that mean I’m getting old?

On the way to crash one of our friend’s birthday party we saw this cool statue of Willie Nelson. It’s right outside of the W Hotel. Some day I’d like to stay in a W hotel. Austin is so cool.

Climb for Air

Saturday I finally did the Climb for Air.  I figured it would take me a minute a flight of stairs. To my surprise, the 33 flights of stairs or 660 stairs, only took me 8:07.  But let me tell you, it was the hardest 8:07 of my life.  But the third flight I was panting and had to start walking. It was crazy.  I’m telling you, if I had any stairs near by, I’d start walking them.  That was the best/hardest exercise I’ve ever done!!!! What was even crazier was firemen from around the area went in and did it wearing full gear.  It took most of them about 5 minutes or less to climb to the top!  I was so proud of my entire team.  We did so good! I’m going to put this on my annual races, but next year I will try to train for it at least a little bit.  🙂

After the race, we went to Coal Vines on 2nd street.  Three of us shared a sausage bell pepper pizza.  I was a little leary of this because I usually only put cheese on my pizzas, but this was one of the best pizzas I’ve ever eaten!  I recommend this place to anyone.  It wasn’t crazy expensive either!!

The fire fighters did the climb in full gear.

A fire fighter waiting to go in!

I’m about to climb THIS????

Two ambulances ready to serve…we saw several people going out on stretchers.

These guys are amazing!

I think this was just another day for them!

Really? WHY did I sign up for this?

This is the stairs I had to climb.

I saw this car in the parking garage as I was about to leave.  It reminded me of being a kid.

What a beautiful building!

After the climb, we went to Coal Vines.  Their wine wall was too cool!

This is one of the best pizzas I’ve ever eaten!

I can’t believe I did it!! That building is MINE!!! 🙂

Taco Shack

Every once in a while, if we are in a hurry, we will go to the Taco Shack on Metric for breakfast. They make a pretty decent breakfast taco. I don’t really care for their hot sauce but that’s not a big deal for me anyway. Today I was annoyed though, because I was in the mood for some chips and queso for breakfast. They said they don’t serve that at breakfast time. So I asked for guacamole and chips since it was on the breakfast menu and the guy said they don’t do any chips for breakfast. What kind of Mexican food restaurant doesn’t have chips for breakfast!? I’m sure we will go back, but I won’t be getting chips then either.
