It’s Raining! It’s Pouring!
It’s raining cats and dogs in Austin today! Yesterday when I heard about the weather I got so nervous. Mike wasn’t home and I really needed to park my car in the garage, which was full. Well, turns out I’m not as helpless as I thought I was because I was able to move everything to one side of the garage and get my car in there. It’s not pretty, but it fits. It may be time to get rid of some stuff though!!
The best thing about rainy days is RAIN BOOTS! I got mine last year at Maurice’s for $9.00. I had been looking everywhere for rain boots and the least expensive ones I found were $25.00. I’m pretty cheap, so I couldn’t justify paying that much for something I wear once a year.
I loved getting to work today an seeing all the cute rain boots that everyone has!
I bet my friend at Definitely Leopard will love these!
These are the Maurice Boots!
Here are some Missoni Rain Boots!!
Cooper! What Happened!?
When I came home after being gone for a week, I found that Cooper had a growth spurt! I almost didn’t recognize him! Even after the 4 miles and 135 lunges that we did this morning, he still wasn’t tired. I’m not sure how I’m going to keep up with him. Today he goes to his puppy class, but he missed a week and he had a week of no practice. I’m pretty sure he’s going to have to take a repeater class. It’s a good thing he’s so cute!!
Happy St. Cuban Day!
Had it not been for Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, the annual Dallas, TX. St. Patty’s Day Parade may not have happened this year. This parade is probably the only cool thing that Dallas does. Austin has a festival/party almost every weekend, but Dallas really doesn’t seem to want to have cool things. Well, luckily for Dallas, Mark Cuban came to the rescue and helped fund the parade.
I started out the day doing the Dash Down Greenville. This year I made it about 2.5 miles before I decided I needed to alternate running and walking. It took me 37 minutes to do the run. It took Mike 31 minutes and I think Paul did it in 25 minutes. After the run, they gave away free beer and other swag items that I didn’t really worry to much about.
After we went to the car to change for the parade, we tried to go to the Schlotzsky’s on Greenville, but despite the fact that they door said they opened at 10:30 and there were workers inside, they told us they wouldn’t be open until 2:00. They must not enjoy making money to be closed on one of the busiest day Greenville Avenue has. I also think they should have considered putting a sign on the door, but I guess it’s none of my business how they run theirs.
The parade was a blast as usual. We stood at our annual spot and cheered on the “floats” and screamed to get free beads. Every year I think that our group should enter our own float since I haven’t ridden on a float and given the princess wave since college. We only have to find someone who wants to build and store the float somewhere. Any takers?
Best Running Shorts Ever
I absolutely love the Nike running shorts. I love how they have that flap of material on the side that helps hide my “problem area”. The only thing I don’t like about them is the price. I’ve found them costing anywhere from $20 – $30. I don’t usually like to spend that much money for shorts that I only wear to run, but I usually do anyway. Well, I was really excited when I was at Marshall’s and found them for $14.99!!! If they would have had more, I would have bought them all. This may mean a trip to all the Marshall’s in the area to find some more!!
Ready to Ski Again!
I realized one thing from my ski trip…I need my own ski boots! I always have trouble getting in and out of the rentals because I have kind of big legs. Usually, I end up getting pretty bruised up because they are so tight on me. I also don’t like the idea of putting my foot in the same boot that hundreds of other people have put their foot in, even if I know they disinfect. Every time I go, I come to this realization, but today is the first time I did anything about it. My mom and I went out ski boot shopping and ended up in McKinney at Doug and Lynda’s Ski Shop. They have the nicest people working there. The man who helped me pick out boots was so nice and helpful. He made sure to give me tips from how to put them on properly to how to store them. He found a great pair of Nordica boots that weren’t ridiculously priced that fit me!! My mom decided that she wanted to get these for me for my birthday, so that makes these extra special!
The lady that checked us out was super sweet, too. She followed us to the car to make sure we had good directions to our next location.
I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to go back for my own skis next! I can’t wait for my next ski trip!
New Running Shoes!
When I got to my parents’ house after the ski trip, I went to get out my tennis shoes and realized that they had been packed in the suitcase that went home. I guess that’s as good of an excuse as any to go out and buy new ones! My mom and I loaded up the baby and rushed over to DSW because she had a $20 off coupon. I looked for a pair of Adidas, but they really didn’t have any that I would want to wear. Since all I have to wear here are Uggs and Cowboy Boots, I didn’t have the option of being picky, so I went ahead and tried out the Asics. I have worn them two times out to the Katy Trail since I bought them and I really like them. Maybe I’ll be changing over for good in the future!
iFitness Belt
A few years ago when I was at the Cap 10K expo, I saw these fantastic running belts. I was always looking for somewhere to put my phone when I went for a walk and this seemed like the perfect solution! I was right! I bought my first belt that day. I got a black one with a blue zipper, so that Mike and I could share. When I took it over, I realized I needed to buy another one. I bought one for me that had a pink zipper. Since then, I have referred several of my friends to get them and I’ve bought them as gifts. My friend, Kim, bought one that had a double pouch and I’ve always been a little envious because she can put her keys AND her phone in it when she walks. Well, my dog ate my belt, so I decided to order my own double pouch iFitness belt. I’m so excited and can’t wait to go out for my first walk today!!
Headed home!
We had a great vacation! Today was probably my best skiing day! All week I kept looking at the top of the mountain and thinking that I could probably ski it, if I could just get up there. I was really afraid because they don’t use normal lifts to get you up there. They use t-bars. I’ve never been on a t-bar and watching everyone go up the mountain on them made it seem really scary.
My first attempt to get on the t-bar was not successful. I watched Mike fall to the ground as he got on, so I was really nervous. I got a little further but somehow I ended up holding the bar with my hands. I could hear the guy that loads us tell Mike I wasn’t going to make it. I was determined to hold on until I saw how far I would have to hang on, so I let loose and had to ski back down and try again. Mike saw me and got off and we rode up there together.
I was right! I had no problem skiing down this run even though it was a black. Mike had no problem either, until he got to the bottom crossing area. He skied over his pole and ended up in the be careful sign. Luckily, he wasn’t hurt!!
Day 3
Looks like it is just going to be Paul and me on the slopes today. Mike woke up feeling really sick. We are going to take it easy today and stick to the easier runs, so I’m not going to go to the top of the mountain. I was a little scared anyway, so today will build my confidence and I will go tomorrow. For now, we will enjoy a few minutes at Starbucks before we hit it.
Breckenridge
It’s really pretty here. Today we skied all day. We did mostly blues and a couple blacks. Really, it’s a pretty easy place to ski. We did two mogul runs. Tomorrow we are going to take a t-bar to the top of the mountain and attempt to make it down. I hope the weather is nice.
I don’t think my “good looking super athletic” friend is going to try the top of the mountain because he fell down the entire mountain on the last run. I think he got hurt because he got really crabby. I wonder if I should have been laughing so hard as I watched him slide down the mountain!?
